We’re continuing to share candidate stories so you can learn more about their experiences, what we do and how we help.
At the start of 2021 we placed Gemma in her current role as Web Developer at a creative agency in Newcastle. Here is Gemma’s story!
An exciting opportunity
I wasn’t actively searching for a new job, but I spotted an opportunity that excited me on Indeed, posted by Concept. I wanted to know more about the role so I could weigh up whether I was going to apply.
I found the Concept team on LinkedIn and got in touch with Steph to ask for further information. Steph then put me in touch with Jo who was the main contact for the role.
Hesitant but pleasantly surprised
I had spoken with recruiters who’d reached out to me directly before, and found them to be quite pushy. I felt they were acting with their best interests at heart and wanted to gain commission rather than taking my needs and preferences into account. So I was a little hesitant to reach out to Concept, but I was pleasantly surprised as the experience was completely different to what I’d experienced in the past.
Jo gave me a call to discuss the role straight away and listened when I said I wasn’t 100% sure if I wanted to leave my job, but I was keen to learn more about the opportunity.
Transparency from the start
Jo was completely transparent from the start, she let me know the salary and company name so I could do some research. She was also very open with my potential employers taking care to act correctly on my behalf. She informed them that I was comfortable in my role at the time and was just weighing up my options. Jo organised everything for me and kept in touch, so I was always in the loop.
Dedication and support that fit around my needs
What I appreciated the most was the fact that contact with Jo fit around my needs and schedule. Jo was incredibly dedicated and in contact with me outside of the usual 9am till 5pm, which was appreciated as it fit around my work schedule.
When I was offered an interview, Jo helped me prepare. She sent me useful resources on interviews and body language and kept checking in with me to see how I was feeling. After the interview, Jo was quickly in touch to give me feedback and ask how I felt it had gone.
Help with resignation
I was offered the job which was fantastic news, and I made the decision to leave my role. The support from Jo didn’t finish there, she helped me put together my letter of resignation, navigate my contract and negotiate my notice period.
I really felt like everyone at Concept went above and beyond to support me through a process which can often feel difficult to navigate. Especially if you’re relatively inexperience in the whole process of moving jobs, like I was. It really helped me to have that level of support. I’ve been in my new job for 18 months now and I totally love it. It was everything that Jo told me it would be and more. I’m really happy here and can see a very bright future.
